Experience
This is my 12th year at Southaven High, #chargernation and 11th teaching History. During the 2012-2013 school year I taught Drug Education. I began teaching World History and Advanced Placement World History during the 2013-2014 school year, and I will continue these this year (2023-2024). I love history and I am excited to be able to share that passion with my students!! I have a strong background and interest in DeSoto County so I am happy to be helping it grow! I attended a DeSoto County high school, and I performed my student teaching at another DeSoto County high school in the 2011-2012 school year, and all of my kids attend DeSoto County schools as well. #teamdcs #rasingthebar #growthandculture

Bio
My name is Skye Rhodes. I am originally from Michigan, but I attended high school here in DeSoto County, at Hernando High. I was involved in band and colorguard while at Hernando. I earned my Associate's Degree from Northwest Mississippi Community College in 2010, where I started out as a pre-law major before switching to education. I was also a part of the band and colorguard at NWCC. I attended the University of Mississippi where I earned my Bachelor's Degree in Secondary Education for social studies in 2012.

2024 is also my first year as Tennis Coach!

I am married to a great guy named Lane, and we currently have three rowdy boys: Stanton, Brayden, and Camdyn, and one beautiful little girl, Brynlee! I am a self-proclaimed "nerd" or "geek" that loves to read, especially Harry Potter, and loves history! My classroom is full of more globes and postcards than any one person needs and they reflect my love of learning, travel, and culture.

I am really enjoying my time as a World History and AP World History teacher here at Southaven High School and I look forward to all the new and exciting experiences that are ahead of me!!

AP Note from Mrs. Rhodes: Most important Guidelines

Respect the opinions, personal property, and personal space of your fellow students, Mrs. Rhodes, and any guests that may be in the classroom at all times.

I will not tolerate bullying or disrespect in my classroom {including my virtual classroom}, EVER.

This is an AP course, which means it will require more effort than other classes; it also means that you will be expected to do more reading and writing than in a conventional history class. This class is designed to help you earn college credit while still attending high school, so it will also require you to be more responsible for your own learning than a conventional class.
Be prepared for class every day. You need to bring supplies to class; this includes but is not limited to: your device, paper, writing utensils, and any assignments that are due.
Above allI expect you to do your best on a daily basis! I understand that your best will change from day-to-day, but in order to succeed you need to bring a good attitude and put forth a good effort.

Remember it is always easier to keep up than to catch up!

Note for parent contact: Email or schoolstatus is always the best way, I rarely check my voicemail.

About AP...
Hint for AP World History... We move FAST and there is A LOT of reading.

Also, disclaimer here, the AP curriculum does include lots of sensitive subjects like all major religions, gender relations, and family relationships throughout history so it will be expected of you to read about religions that are different from yours, but it is not meant to change your opinion just educate you. It is also not uncommon to read about pirates, criminals, prostitution, or drugs because these things have shaped history in some way. Because this is a college level course we expect you to be mature about these subjects and be able to handle them.
