About the School
Southaven High School is a public high school in rapidly growing Desoto County, MS. It serves students in grades 9 - 12. The school is part of the DeSoto County School District. It has a current enrollment of over 1800 students. Adam Sikes is principal.
The school was completed in 1972 and was originally the site of a junior and senior high school. With the tremendous population growth, a new middle school was constructed in 1996, and the junior high was moved to this new site. The high school expanded into the previous junior high building to better accommodate the increased enrollment.
In 2004, citizens of DeSoto County voted to pass a school bond proposal worth $115 million to help expand or replace some of the district's aging schools. Southaven High School was one of two high schools that was replaced with a new facility (the other being Horn Lake High). Ground was broken during the summer of 2005 on a plot of land directly east of the original school. The facility was completed in the fall of 2006, and was opened in January of 2007. The original facility was renovated and opened as Southaven Middle School.

Teacher Qualifications
Parents of SHS students have the right to know the professional qualifications of classroom teachers who instruct their child.
Federal law allows parents to ask for certain information about their child's classroom teachers:
Whether the Mississippi Department of Education has licensed the teacher for the grades and subjects he or she teaches.
Whether the Mississippi Department of Education has decided that the teacher can teach in a classroom without being licensed under state regulations because of special circumstances.
The teacher's college major and whether the teacher has any advanced degrees.
Whether any teachers' aides or assistants provide services to your child, and if they do, their qualifications.
Any parent of an SHS student who would like to receive any of this information should send a written request to the Principal's attention.
