About the Teacher

Hello! My name is Liz Jones, and I am so excited to be a Southaven Charger this year. A Mississippi native, I was born and raised in Starkville (Hail State!). I graduated Starkville High School in 2016 and went on to study Classical Vocal Performance and German at Belmont University in Nashville, TN. I completed my degree at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 and moved to Memphis.

Since moving to Memphis, I realized that I actually did not want to be an opera singer, instead I wanted to be a teacher. A big factor in this decision was my time spent working with high school students during Summer Scholars OnStage at Mississippi State University. This past summer was my 9th year at camp and 5th year as a counselor and instructor.

I spent the spring of 2023 working as a substitute in Desoto County, primarily in English classrooms at Southaven. Now that I have completed my certifications for both English and Music, I am so thrilled to finally have my own classroom.

I look forward to meeting every single one of my students and to seeing some familiar faces. We are going to have a great year!
